About Stortford Youth Choirs

Our Mission

At Stortford Youth Choirs, we are dedicated to empowering young people through inspirational, fun and engaging choral singing.  Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment for young people to grow, sing the music they love, make new connections, and expand their musical horizons.  We have big ambitions for our Youth Choirs from performing locally, to experiencing singing in some of the nation's most iconic venues and more.

Our Choirs

In January 2026, we are launching our Junior Choir (Years 3-6).  We will rehearse on Mondays 5-6pm at St Michael's Primary School, Apton Road, Bishop's Stortford.

Your child will be a founding member of an ambitious, and talented choral group designed for young people, where the music reflects their tastes and interests, as well as exposing them to new choral styles and sounds.  With ambitious concert plans, this is THE place for your child to learn to sing well, learn how to be part of a team, and experience the sheer joy of singing in a choir, led by a highly experienced Principal Conductor.

From September 2026, we will launch our Intermediate Choir (Years 7 and 8) with a view to expanding further to a Senior Choir (Years 9 and above).

Our Principal Conductor - Josie Cowley (M.Ed Cantab)

Josie has conducted over 13,000 children in Bishop's Stortford in the past ten years.  Leader of the Annual Primary Schools Music Festival, most children in Bishop's Stortford have been conducted by her when they were in Year 2 and Year 5.  In addition to this, Josie is a highly regarded Community Choral conductor founding both Herts and Soul Community Choir, The Harmonaires and the annual Bishop's Stortford Choral Festival for adult choirs in the local area.  Josie works closely with community organisations, and through her choral conducting work, has raised tens of thousands of pounds for local and national charities, most notably Isabel Hospice.  As an experienced choral and educational leader, Josie also has a background in safeguarding and mental health, is DBS checked, and is a strong advocate for the power of singing in transforming lives.
